This page explains what happens to data when you visit The Work Shelf. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
What this site collects directly
Almost nothing. There are no accounts, no newsletter sign-up, and comments are disabled. If you email me, I have your email address and whatever you wrote — nothing more, and I don’t add it to any list.
What third parties collect
Google AdSense
This site displays ads served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. For opting out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising, visit aboutads.info.
Amazon Associates
Links to books are affiliate links. When you click one, Amazon may set a cookie that identifies the referral for up to 24 hours. I receive aggregate reports on clicks and orders — never your name, address, or payment details.
Web hosting
The server keeps standard access logs: IP address, browser, page requested, timestamp. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and are rotated by the host.
Cookies
The site itself sets no tracking cookies. Cookies you may receive come from Google’s advertising and from Amazon’s affiliate links, as described above. Your browser can block or delete cookies at any time; the site works without them, though ads may become less relevant.
If you are in the EU or UK
Under GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you, and you may object to processing. Since this site holds essentially nothing beyond emails you choose to send, such a request usually amounts to deleting an email thread — which I’ll do on request.
Children
This site is written for working adults and is not directed at children under 13. No data is knowingly collected from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
